Zak's this year turned out to be an outstanding day on the water. Just a few details... temps were in the upper 40's to mid 50's. Light rain for most of the day with a stiff wind. 35 of the 36 vets, vols, and visitors that signed up made it. One positive note, no mosquitoes all day.

Nothing but happy attendees, and a couple of new folks including State Senator Paul Honig. Paul's first time in the water, first time with a fly rod. Paul is the head of the Veteran's affairs committee on the state legislature.
So now lets talk about what happen during the event. Carl S and Jim B from FVTU joined us for the day. First they went downstream and grabbed a sampling of bugs in the water. Next they came back and took the time to explain to the vets and vols what type of bug were in the water. Finally, the sight of the real bugs vs. the flies they were tying, and the ones they were fishing, things are starting to make sense.

Mid day meal Chefs John F, Art, Chefs in training, Darrin, and Gary B grilled, fed, and cleaned up after 35 hungry, wet attendees. They did this even though we only had 1 1/2 working grilles. One burner was down.
Here are a few other happy anglers

A fire for warmth and a meeting point for the vets and vols throughout the day to swap some stories

All in all a great day on the water.
Next up, Deerspring Lodge, Merrill, NY. 6 vets, 3 vols heading up for a multiday trip.
