Fly Tying the Silverside Spearing, Time Change, Another Steelhead for Emilio

Only 26 vets and vols showed up to tie flies at the American Legion. Back when I first became associated with this group, I remember having as few as 6 vets and vols attend a tying session. All we had were 2 suitcases of assorted materials, and a few vices. Back then we were meeting in a small storage room at the VA. Boy how things change over the years.

Our next in person meeting will be Fly Tying at the American Legion Hall in Newington on Thursday,11/20. Save the date, we are tying the Black Stonefly.

On another note, On Sunday 11/2, members of Housatonic Anglers and hosts Pul Deniece and Ted Rzepski hosted a saltwater outing at Short Beach in Stratford. Vets and Vols from our VHotF program were invited. It’s nice to be accepted and included in activities sponsored by neighboring Fly-Fishing organizations, thanks to Housatonic Anglers. BTW, the only angler that caught anything during this event was another one of our vols Ted Rz.

So, Emilio was back in Pulaski, and he had “a Slow Day”, 1000 casts and just one bite, but he managed to land this steelhead and safely release. Check out the pic as proof. He is using that new rod he built and trying to test the warranty.
Emilio is a vol with our group who is an avid angler, and rod builder. Additionally, he has some talents you may not be aware of. He is the one that designed our website and logo that now appears on our shirts and hats. He isn’t too local, living and working in South Central CT, but he sure is active, especially behind the lines.

If you are a vet with disabilities or know one that may be interested in our program, maybe you are interested in supporting our program as a volunteer or donation, you can contact us or support us by using the links on this site, and be sure toi follow Vets healing on the Fly on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1280669250283103
