Another successful tying session 26, yes 26 in attendance.  We just keep growing.   We tied the “CDC Caddis” and were treated to Patty’s Coffee Cake and Neil’s Bagels.  But there was a downside, Don made the coffee.

Even as I write this blog, 5 of our vets, Marcos, Tim O, Mike P, Cameron, and John S are now onboard Captain Casey’s charter boat departing Buzzards Bay for a 5-hour trip hosted by Fishing for the Mission 22, a vet service based organization based near the Cape.  “22” is the number of veteran suicides every day.  We use fly-fishing as a form of therapy to help vets with disabilities cope, and many other vet service organizations use other forms of fishing.  This Friday, September 26th, 4 more from our program will be taking another charter out of Buzzards Bay.

This week, Sonny Showman, age 93, a Vets Healing on the Fly participant from our program, was recognized at an award ceremony at the South Windsor town hall along with 9 other vets. Sonny served our country boots on the ground during the Korean War. Sonny is a real ladies’ man and is pictured here with Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz.

John S, one of our most active participants, recently attended the Gaylord Hospital Sports Association Sponsored Bass tournament yesterday for veterans with disabilities at Congamond Lake in Massachusetts. Twenty-five pro bass teams participated and this year he came in third place.

He had a great time with a volunteer professional bass angler on his bass boat. John has been a real competitor in this tournament. Last year he and the same volunteer placed first.

Following this up, he also had a great showing at the Branford Yacht Club landing a thirteen sea trout, a couple of porgies and a small shark.

We are starting to reach the end of the season, but we still have one more outing planned on October 9th at Limestone Trout Club.  The slots for this event are currently filled, but the final roster will change as we get closer.  Even though the scheduled outings for the year are ending, that doesn’t mean we are stopping, we will be moving indoors and tying flies for next year.
